What an incredible experience!!! We've been to several assignment nights over the last year and it was very different and a lot more nerve racking this time around! Assignment night is a tradition of sorts and a right of passage; almost ritualistic in nature. The wing leadership and about 300 people show up to see what the next crop of pilots will go on to fly operationally. First, the Wing Commander gave us a private toast, letting us know that we were about to go on to do great things and that there were no bad assignments. Then, we got called up, one by one, for a roast of sorts...about 2 minutes of all the stupid things you've done over the past year...and a lead in...something like "so where will you be messing up radio calls next?" And then the powerpoint frame switches to the aircraft and location you will be flying next. Up until that point your assignment is kept a secret. It was very nerve racking because for the last month and a half the instructors have been been messing with 3 people in our class (one of them myself) and joking with us that we we're all going to FAIP (First Assignment Instructor Pilot) not a bad gig, but we all wanted to get out and do the mission, and no one wanted to FAIP. So when it was my turn I was very nervous, and when I turned to look at my slide I got super excited! We got our #1 choice!! We're going to be flying the KC-10 at Travis AFB, CA. It has a dual role as a Tanker/Cargo aircraft and it's the second biggest aircraft in the AF. Travis AFB is located between Sacramento and San Francisco...oh and 10 minutes from the famed Napa Valley and close to the Lake Tahoe area...so y'all come visit! We don't know when we leave yet, but based on rumors we'll be in Mississippi until around June...we'll keep you posted. Thank you for all your prayers and well wishes. Now all that's left is to get our wings in just 2 weeks from today. Can't wait to see all of you who are coming, and we'll see the rest of you soon. We wish you all a very Happy Easter!

We are so happy that you got your first choice! Now we have to come visit! Looks like a VERY BIG plane! We are sure you can handle it! We think you are going to have a lot of visitors. Make some room for us!
